Dark Lord Day 2012

This past Saturday I attended Three Floyds annual Dark Lord Day (DLD), a festival dedicated to the one day a year Dark Lord goes on sale to the public. Dark Lord is a Russian imperial stout brewed with coffee, molasses, and honey (13% ABV and oh-so-good). This was my first time attending DLD, and I am happy to report that it lives up to all the hype. The event consisted of great beer, food, music, and company. While the weather was unpleasant, the atmosphere was more than enjoyable. From 9:00 AM until 7:30 PM we bounced around from line to line soaking in all that DLD had to offer. I was amazed by the 6,000 beer geeks who came from all over to get their hands on some Dark Lord.

My husband and I walked out with more bottles than we know what to do with. We’re looking forward to aging a few to bring back to next year’s DLD as well as sharing some with close friends and family.

Below are a few highlights from the day’s festivities.

There was a lot of beer trading going on between complete strangers as we all anxiously waited to be let into the festival. As we finished our beer, bottles were showcased along the curb. It was the most respectful and interesting form of littering I had ever seen.

Drinking various other Three Floyds brews throughout the day.

As we waited in line to buy Dark Lord bottles, I took a snapshot of the crowd. Notice the male-to-female ratio?

As a beer and coffee nerd, it was exciting for me to see a tent for Intelligentsia.

It was great having quality beer and coffee come together at one event.

We waited in line for about 4 hours to get into the pub, but it was well worth it.

Here we are, finally having Dark Lord on tap.
